Coaches Spotlight- Svenn Winther

Hey C46er's. 


We are going to start spotlighting members and coaches so we can all get to know each other a little better. First up is Coach Svenn Winther. 





What is your athletic, fitness and training background: 


Growing up in Bygland, Setesdal mostly involved fun and activities in the outdoors, nature became a playground. Like everyone else I played soccer for 5-6 years until I got to try gymnastics. Gymnastics allowed me to express physical skill in a broad spectrum of versatility. The years went by and I started studying in Kristiansand, I had started my «bodybuilding career» like so many others but was quickly tired of its’ simplicity, it lacked variance and after years of teamsports I was missing camaraderie. So I found CrossFit and fell in love with it. 


If you have a career outside of Crossfit what is it? And if you are in school, what are you studying? 

I  am currently studying nursing at the Univeristy of Agder. 


What is your favourite part about being a Crossfit Coach? 


The people obviously. Being a coach requires an effort but the payback from our members easily outweighs it. Being a coach also allows you to improve as an athlete, coaching others will help you coach yourself as well. 


What was your first exposure to Crossfit like?


I watched videos on YouTube. At first I was quite skeptical but seeing so many superhumans I thought to myself that if i can become 1/3 of what they are, I would be extremely satisfied. Within one week I did a test wod. Within one month I had a complete membership. My first workout was «D.T», the workout showed me how mortal I was, but motivated me to become better at this sport. 



What is your favourite movie? 


The lord of the rings trilogy. Don’t even bother contest. Please.

What is your favourite exercise in Crossfit? 


Muscle ups. Hold on, swing hard, fly, lock out and have fun.


What is your least favourite exercise in Crossfit?


Rowing – Sometimes I wish I was 30 kgs heavier and 25cm taller…just kind of aint though…


Besides Crossfit, what do you like to do for fun in your spare-time? 


Getting lost in the woods has always been a favourite and I’m pretty sure it always will be. Climbing a huge mountain, getting to the top and finding a nice view is one of the most enjoyable things I know.
